Sometimes life shifts in ways that leave us uncertain of who we are or where we are going. I offer a warm, confidential space to slow down, make sense of what you are carrying, and find a new understanding of yourself.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
Professionally registered
BACP MemberI am Rebecca Mills, an integrative counsellor working with adults aged 18 and over who are navigating change, loss, uncertainty, or a sense that they have lost touch with who they are.
Life does not always fall apart dramatically. Sometimes it is a quiet accumulation - a relationship that has shifted, a role that no longer fits, a grief that has not been named. Whatever has brought you here, you do not need to arrive with the right words or a clear sense of what is wrong. That is what we figure out together.
My approach draws on person-centred, psychodynamic and existential thinking, with an interest in transpersonal and nature-informed perspectives. What that means in practice is that I follow your lead, pay attention to what is beneath the surface, and work in a way that fits you - not a template.
I work with adults aged 18 and over, in person in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and online with clients across the UK.

Many people arrive knowing only that something feels difficult - that they are stuck, or different, or not quite themselves. That is enough. Together we will find the words.
New beginnings, endings, and the disorienting in-between. Career changes, moving, relationship shifts, parenthood, retirement - even welcome change can leave us unmoored.
Grief rarely follows a tidy path, and it is not only about death. The loss of a relationship, a version of your life, or a sense of who you were - all of it deserves space.
A serious diagnosis changes everything – not just practically, but in how you see yourself and your life. I work with people living with cancer and other health conditions, as well as those close to someone who is unwell. At the moment my work does not extend to end of life or palliative care.
Who am I, really? What do I actually want? Questions about values, roles, and the gap between how you live and how you want to live.
Persistent worry, restlessness, a sense of dread that is hard to name. We can explore what is underneath it and find ways to live with less of it.
Flatness, emptiness, or an inability to engage with things that used to matter. A space to be honest about how hard it is, without pressure to fix it quickly.
Recurring patterns, disconnection, difficulty asking for what you need, or the aftermath of a relationship ending. This work can be some of the most meaningful.
When your child or young person is in therapy, you carry a great deal alongside them. A space of your own to understand what they may be experiencing, process the emotional impact at home, and look after yourself through it.
For some people, movement through nature creates a different kind of openness - one that a consulting room does not always offer. Where that feels true, walk and talk therapy can be a powerful way of working.
This is something I offer once we have established a working therapeutic relationship and have spent time together in the consulting room. It is not something available from the outset; it works best when there is already trust and familiarity between us, and when the work is ready to be held in a less contained space. Walk and talk sessions take place in the parks and green spaces of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, in locations that are safe, private, and agreed between us.
If you are interested in walk and talk as part of your therapy, please mention it when we first speak - we can discuss whether and when it might be right for you.
I do not follow a single rigid framework. Integrative counselling means I draw on a range of approaches and adapt to what you actually need - rather than fitting you to a model.
At the heart of my work is the belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is what heals. Feeling genuinely heard - without judgement, without an agenda - is often what makes the difference.
I have a particular interest in existential and transpersonal perspectives: questions of meaning, transition, spirituality, and what it means to live a life that feels true. For those who are drawn to it, nature-based and body-informed ways of working can also offer a different kind of openness.
You set the direction. I follow your lead with warmth, honesty, and genuine acceptance of who you are - not who you think you should be.
Drawing on psychodynamic and existential thinking, we pay attention to patterns, the past, and questions of meaning - when that is useful.
If you want tools, strategies, or a more structured approach at times, I can draw on that too. The work is shaped by what you need.
A no-obligation call to see if working together feels right for you.
A regular, protected time that is entirely yours - in person or online.
Some people find six to twelve sessions helpful. Others want longer-term work. We decide together and review as we go.
We check in about how the work feels and adjust it. You are always in the driving seat.
When you are ready to finish, we make space for a proper ending - not just stopping. That matters too.

UK clients only · Secure video platformI offer a small number of concessionary places. If cost is a barrier, please mention it when you get in touch - I would rather find a way to make it work than have fees be the only obstacle.
It is completely normal to have questions before reaching out. Here are some of the things people most often ask me.
If something is not covered here, please feel free to ask when you get in touch - there are no silly questions.
In our first session we will talk about what has brought you here and what you are hoping for. There is no right way to do it. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable, and we go at your pace. Many people say that simply being heard - without judgement, without advice, without someone trying to fix them - is itself a relief.
There is no set answer. Some people find six to twelve sessions helpful for a particular issue. Others prefer open-ended, longer-term work. We will review together as we go - you are never locked in, and I will never suggest continuing if I do not think it is serving you.
Yes - with narrow exceptions. Everything you share is held in strict confidence. The only circumstances in which I might need to break confidentiality are a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or a legal requirement to disclose. I would always try to talk with you first. I also discuss my work with my clinical supervisor (required by BACP), but your identity is protected. I explain this fully in my working agreement before we start.
It means I do not follow a single rigid framework. Instead of fitting you to a model, I draw on different therapeutic approaches - person-centred, psychodynamic, existential, and others - and adapt to what you actually need. The relationship between us, and what works for you specifically, comes first.
Yes. Online sessions are available to adults aged 18 and over anywhere in the UK. I use Doxy.me, a secure, GDPR-compliant video platform designed specifically for therapy — you don't need to download anything or create an account. I'll send you a link before each session. All you need is somewhere private and quiet. Many clients find online therapy just as meaningful as in-person work.
Yes. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), member no. 421765. This means I work within their Ethical Framework, hold professional indemnity insurance, work in regular clinical supervision, and commit to ongoing professional development. BACP can be found at bacp.co.uk.
There is no pressure and no commitment. I aim to respond to all enquiries within one to two working days. If you would prefer to speak first, just say so.
Whether you are certain counselling is right for you, or just wondering whether it might help - you are welcome to get in touch.
